Shopify Lite Store Concept Evaluation
Jan.-Feb. 2021

Challenge

It was a known problem that many merchants would give up starting their business because they spent too much time setting up their stores.

The team aimed to solve this problem and came up with a hypothesis to provide merchants with a lite store, assuming that it could help them launch their businesses earlier.

This study was conducted in India, Australia, USA and China.

Impact

-The research result proved the hypothesis was wrong but we found new motivation opportunities.

-One was to allow them to see consumer feedback data earlier.
Seeing the metrics would motivate them to start selling earlier.

-
The other is to provide them good product pictures. We found that a lot of small businesses couldn't finish building their store because they didn't have enough good pictures and product details. On the contrary, Chinese merchants often built their stores quicker because they had a lot of ready-to-use pictures from the factories.
